Guest guest Posted February 14, 2002 Report Share Posted February 14, 2002 Hi all, I'm curious to hear suggestions for teaching kids about animal rights and vegetarianism. I tutor in the mornings at a middle school in the Mission district. Most of the kids come from low-income families and eat breakfasts with absolutely no nutritional value. Nachos, Snicker Bars, Muffins, etc... A lot of the stories we read are about animals and most discuss extinction. The inevitable question is, " Why would anyone kill a whale " ? " Part of me wants to say, " Why would anyone kill a cow or a chicken or a turkey? Do you know where your hamburger comes from? " Of course, I would never preach to 11 year-olds. These kids are hungry for information. Can you point me to some animal rights resources designed for kids?. Most of the students are between the ages of 10-12.
