Dear Friends,

Just wanted to pass along the news of an upcoming opportunity for veggie/ar

outreach in San Francisco. This Saturday, February 23rd, there will be a

march in the city to demand money for jobs, healthcare, and education (not

war!). Sponsored by a coalition of progressive organizations, the march ( &

rally following the march) offers an excellent opportunity for tabling,

leafleting & sign-holding.

The Food & Social Justice Project will be tabling at the post-march rally

(details below), offering up a smorgasbord of food for thought -- its own

literature (connecting food choices with the larger plate of social justice

issues) and literature from other groups (Vegan Outreach & PeTA, primarily).

To participate or to do your own outreach (with a table and/or placards

and/or stacks of leaflets), you need only show up.

Hope many of you can make it.

Thanks,

Alka

March to Demand Money for Jobs, Healthcare, and

Education -- NOT WAR!

Join concerned individuals and dozens of Bay Area

organizations to fill the streets at a mass MARCH and

RALLY against the war:

Saturday, February 23, San Francisco

11:00am Assemble at Dolores Park (Dolores and 18th

Streets in the Mission District)

12:00pm March by way of General Hospital

1:00pm Rally at Potrero del Sol Park (between Potrero

and San Bruno near Cesar Chavez and 25th Streets)

Bi-lingual translation (spanish) is provided at the rally.

Speakers and performers at the rally:

Walter Johnson, San Francisco Labor Council

Tillie Olson, writer

Yuri Kochiyama, activist

Shahi Sadat, poet

devorah major, poet

airport screener union

And many more!

Come show your support for peace! Bring your own

signs & banners and your voice. We need to show that

the anti-war movement in the greater Bay Area will not

be silenced and that we will continue to stand in

solidarity with victims of racist hate crimes and

against retaliatory bombing of innocent people around

the world, the backlash against civil rights, and

government spending on war over human needs. Our

united demands are:

End the War: The War Is Not Over!

End the war in Afghanistan NOW! The war continues and

will possibly expand to other countries, such as Iraq,

Somalia, and the Philippines. Fight the recession!

Layoffs, budget cuts, and tax breaks for corporations

and the wealthy are part of the war at home.

Defend Civil Liberties!

Come together to defend our rights as workers,

students, and immigrants from attacks such as the

PATRIOT ACT, and military tribunals. Free detainees

form INS/FBI lock-up. Protect the right to dissent

for campus staff, students, and others.

Stop Racist Scapegoating!

We must act in solidarity to protect those the

government labels " enemies " by virtue of skin color,

religion, and ethnicity.

We are also seeking volunteers to serve as monitors

for the march -- please contact th-rally

or call the phone number below.
