Guest guest
Hi all, We're thinking of organizing another Bay Area veggie camping trip. We did one several years ago in Oakland (I think it was at Anthony Chabot, I remember LOTS of eucalyptus trees) and it was a lot of fun. We just did it on a regular weekend, starting Saturday morning with a hike and ending Sunday afternoon. Because it was local, a few people came just for Saturday day; although it was in the East Bay, had quite a few South Bay folks, too. Most of us spent the nite, we even had some friendly guitarists and campfire songs. And, of course, lots of vegan food :-) Because it was just an overnite trip, we did it potluck style, with folks making stuff ahead of time and just keeping it fresh in individual coolers. We're thinking of doing another local camping trip sometime in early summer/June, probably potluck style for the food again. Everyone provides their own camping gear, split campsite costs, etc. Butano State Park has been recommended to us. - According to Native American lore, butano means " a gathering place for friendly visits " (that's us!) - 2,200 acres lie in a secluded redwood-filled canyon, described as a " redwood rain forest " - Only three miles from the coast, with many miles of hiking trails; some of the park's trails offer views of the ocean. - It has 21 drive-in campsites (car camping possible) and 18 walk-in campsites. Restrooms with running water are provided. There are no showers. - Butano is on the San Mateo Coast, off Highway One. Three miles northeast of the Gazos Creek Coastal Access Point by way of Gazos Creek Road, and about 4.5 miles southeast of Pescadero by way of the Pescadero and Cloverdale Roads. http://www.gorp.com/gorp/publishers/menasha/cmp_fris.htm#INSET We haven't been there personally yet, but doesn't it sound nice?! Probably in the next couple of weeks we'll do an exploratory visit/hike out that way. Please write me privately if you've been to Butano before, or if you're interested in joining us for the exploratory hike and/or vegan camping trip ..
