Guest guest
> Does anyone know of any vegetarian restaurants in the Orland, Marysville, or > Chico areas? Hi Jack, Hmmm.. I have never been to this restaurant (see below) but the owner, Karen Goodwin, was one of my veg vendors for Earth Day several years ago. Some tamales were vegan & some vegetarian. I tried the vegan ones and they were good. I know she was from Chico, so I did a search on the brand name of her tamales (Today's Tamales) and it showed up! There's still an entry in yellow pages for the restaurant, so maybe it is still in business? If you stop by, give us a report! I'd think if you call the folks at Farm Sanctuary (or maybe Nora or someone else on the list who has interned there), they can give you tips for Orland area... Cafe Sandino 817 Main st. Chico, Ca 95928 (530) 894-6515 Is located on the edge of downtown Chico directly across the street from a natural foods store. It is a full service restaurant open Monday through Saturday for lunch and dinner (11am to 9pm). It's small and has an enviting cozy atmosphere. The restaurant was founded by Karen Goodwin as a place to serve and sell her vegetarian tamales. It has definitly grown from the tamale stand it was into a Chico tradition. We still sell the tamales Karen makes as well as serve dishes with the seitan she produces from her company Today's Traditions. It is primarily southwestern type food. Rice, Beans, Spicy Tofu. The dinner menu is a little more diverse. Tequila Tempeh: Red and green peppers, onions and mustard greens grilled with a tequila lime marinated tempeh over basmati rice. So good!! South African Stir Fry, Sundried Tomato Pesto Fettucini, and Favorites like Roasted Garlic Quesadilla and Tostadas. http://orion.csuchico.edu/Pages/Volume33Issue2/Dimensions/TTatvtreat.html I also saw there's a Chico Food Not Bombs. Isn't their food usually vegan? Maybe they can help :-) Cheers, Tammy " Perform a death-defying act.... Go Vegan! Guest guest
I ate at Cafe Sandino a couple of times when I was up there for bike rides, and liked it, I had some faux Asian dish ('chow mein' or somethign like that). The health food store across the street was very well stocked, and had a table and chair out front, though I didn't like that it was infested with flies. Guest guest
Quick clarification -- the table out front was infested with flies, not the store!! No disparagement of the store at all intended.
