Guest guest
As far as I can tell, the only thing not vegan about it is that it has mayo, which means that a quick " Can you hold the mayo? " is all it takes to get a vegan burger (well, that and the " Please microwave it " request). Personally, I think this is a great step not just for non-vegetarians who want to move towards a more plant-based diet, but for any veg*ns who are on the road and can't find a convenient vegetarian restaurant wherever they may be. Heck, I'm on my way to Tahoe tonight and my friends always stop at In-N-Out Burger while I get some Taco Bell -- I'm going to ask them to drive through the BK instead and see if they have this new item yet. -Kim On Thu, 14 Mar 2002, sunny outdoors wrote: > It's not vegan. > > http://money.cnn.com/2002/03/14/news/companies/burgerking_veggie/index.htm > > It will sell well cause it's only 330 calories. > > I prefer folks to eat at a local vegetarian restaurant > than supporting Burger King. > > Burger King and McDonald have been testing veggie > burgers and don't know why it's taking so long for it > to launch a nationwide veggie burger. Guest guest
the Veggie Burgers are grilled on the same grills as the MEAT burgers. Maybe you can tell them to microwave the burgers. Or make sure several veggie burgers were grilled on the same spot before they grill yours. I'm sure (hope) there's a manager out there that will designate a little corner for a such veggie burgers. It will satisfy also the " NO FAT " and animal rights people. == Any body want info on feeding vegan foods to dogs and may cats? Someone sent me new extensive info. Marr, the assistant to Howard Lyman, has been researching on it for over 5 years. and practicing on it for 15 years --- Kim Flournoy <kim wrote: > As far as I can tell, the only thing not vegan about > it is that it has > mayo, which means that a quick " Can you hold the > mayo? Guest guest
Hi all, Very informative post about BK offering these veggie burgers starting tomorrow! Kim said: >As far as I can tell, the only thing not vegan about it is that it has >mayo, which means that a quick " Can you hold the mayo? I am not very familiar with their product line at all, partly because all the Morningstar products I've seen are not vegan due to inclusion of egg whites, whey, etc. I am not as optimistic that the entire product is vegan since BK spokesperson particularly noted: " We're not pegging this as a product for vegans " but I'd enjoy being proven wrong! What about the sesame buns? But I do agree with Kim, this is a good first-step to make veggie food available to the masses. Happy rainy Sunday all! Glad to see is back up - Cheers, Tammy _______ Get your free @ address at

I can't eat *anything* Worthington Foods (who owns Morningstar) makes and neither can several people I know with MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity). It would be more of us who couldn't except that most people haven't tried these sorts of products. It's a shame in a way because they are everywhere, they have tons of varieties, they're well priced, and I've liked the taste of the ones I've tried. But, yeah, the ones I've seen aren't vegan either. Though they have dozens of products so some are likely vegan (don't know about contamination at the factory though). Guest guest
In searching the BK web site for the ingredients of the burger.. it was interesting to find they had a paper giving lip service to their pushing the USDA re: inspecting for Human Slaughter. http://www.burgerking.com/CompanyInfo/onlinepressroom/fullpresspass/press_re leases/01_23_02.html This might be used as a " keeping up with the jones " to have " food animals " treated better. I would also like to recommend an event tonight: 17 (Sunday) Techno Cosmic Mass: St. Patrick's Day: A Celtic Techno Cosmic Mass Time: Doors open at 6:30 PM Suggested Donation: $10-15 Techno Cosmic Masses and Rituals are held at the Howard Thurman Ritual Center in the historic Sweet's Ballroom, 1933 Broadway, Oakland (1/2 Block North of 19th St. BART) I have been there three or four times and enjoyed it very much. I try to avoid food products that contain ingredients whose names that I can't pronounce, even if the package clearly states its vegan. Less is better, in some instances! We aren't going to be having a grill at the half-year birthday picnic, but nonetheless, if anyone has a great homemade veggie burger recipe, please do share! I tend to buy the Yves burgers but it'd be nice to have an alternative. Tammy _______ Get your free @ address at
