Hi y'all,

If anyone wants to go out on a limb and play with even nutritionoally richer

food - go to www.rawfoods.com for recipes - I had some AMAZING coconut sweet

treats last night that were made from coconut, honey/dates, cardamom (sp?) and

vanilla - blended and pressed into squares. YUM. I also have some great (and

easy) carob/sprouted almond cake and cookie recipes that have turned my vegan

friends into inspired raw food recipe gatherers!

here it is:

CAKE: sprout almonds ( soak overnight), put in food processor with carob powder

and honey or dates, dash of vanilla process until it resembles a thick tasty

" cake " texture - it will of course be a little more chunky than typical cooked

cakes.

FROSTING: cashew nuts, lemon juice, sweetner ( dates), blend in good blender

until creamy - this takes a good spatula and some paitence - though I ahve timed

it and with my Vita Mix it takes about 5 minutes to make.

LAYER: the carob cake, frosting, sliced kiwi strawberry or whatever other fruit

you want in plastic container, freeze - serve mostly frozen - and chant

Yummmmmmm.

Tammy <meowthunk wrote: Hi everyone,

It was a beautiful but soggy day on Sunday at SF's Golden Gate Park. We

found a couple really nice, potential spots for the picnic. Now we just

have to keep our fingers crossed for dry weather the day of the picnic

(Saturday, April 6th) and the few days preceding it. No one wants to go

squish in the grass :-)

Please reserve this date: April 6th, Saturday

and this time: noon to 3 p.m.

for: SFBAVeg 1st Spring / Half Year Birthday Picnic Party!

at: Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, CA

What to bring:

- vegan food dish to share (should provide 6 generous servings)

- autographed recipe of your food item (if possible, it would be great to

collect them and make them available to everyone)

- your own eating plate/utensils/napkins, your own drink, and any serving

ware needed (note: there are garbage cans in the park, but let's try to

limit the amount of disposables)

- games (board games, frisbee, etc.)

- any two or four legged family/friends companions who are well-behaved

- blanket or chairs to sit on

Note: Bringing alochol to share does *not* count as a food item! You are

welcome to bring whatever beverages you like for your personal consumption,

and please remember to bring real food (vegan only) to share with the rest

of us. If you need help or some suggetions, please ask the list or contact

me privately.

We have one card table that we can bring to put food on. If you can bring

another one, please let us know.

Already thinking of what food we could bring... we have this awesome

marinated baked tofu that all our friends rave over.. plus this really great

pesto dip.. a yummy tofu cheezecake... hearty & healthy vegetable pate...

gosh, getting hungry just thinking of the possibilities!

Fine Print - Please reply via e-mail to let us know if you'll be coming.

We'll need to make sure we have enough tables to hold all the food (big

hungry smile) plus the Park & Rec district require a permit if we have more

than 25 people.. The exact location may change depending on how many people,

so we'll wait to get your responses before we announce the exact location,

but it will be within Golden Gate Park, most likely just off JFK drive.

Cheers,

Tammy & Chris
