Description: The ASPCA, the nation's leading companion animal welfare

organization, seeks a seasoned professional to analyze/formulate

pending legislation and the ASPCA's position and to track the

introduction and movement of legislation pertaining to animals in the

region.

 

Duties include drafting position statements, legislative alerts and

lobbying officials & policy makers. Will assist in strategy,

negotiating amendments, legal research, drafting legislation and

formal comments, understand state legislative procedures, promote/

implement animal welfare policies, media relations, develop/launch

campaigns. Be involved in grassroots advocacy - outreach and broad

base coalition building, responding to public inquiries, monthly

reports, administrative matters including lobby registration and

reports.

 

To qualify, you must demonstrate strong multi-tasking,

organizational, presentation, analytical, public speaking,

communication and interpersonal skills.

 

 

 

 

Education: Master (MA, MSW, etc.)

Languages: English

Additional Qualifications: Must have a firm grasp of the legislative

process. Requires 2+ years post law school experience that includes

government affairs and/or familiarity with the issues. A J.D. and

admission to the bar is required as is a commitment to animal

protection. Ability to travel to state capitals to lobby is

necessary.
