It can be tricky or impossible to have it your way at

some Burger Kings, at least for the moment.

 

In the 24 hours since I posted my article supporting

the BK Veggie, I’ve received about five emails from

vegans who unsuccessfully tried to get their local

Burger Kings to microwave their burger. On at least

two of these occasions, the manager refused the

request outright. And in one case, a Vegan.com reader

visited five different Burger Kings in Virginia, and

had his microwave request turned down every time.

 

I’ve been forwarding these complaints to my contact at

Burger King, who has promised prompt action. The

problem here is that many franchises apparently missed

out on the first round of instructions, which

specifically require allowing a microwave option to

every customer who makes the request.

 

Over time, this problem will be rectified, as Burger

King continues to contact restaurants to ensure they

are all complying with the microwave policy. But, in

the meantime, you can help. If you visit a Burger

King, and your request for microwaving the

veggieburger patty is denied, you can write Vegan.com,

and I will forward your report to my contact at Burger

King. Be sure to include the offending branch's

address and phone number. The company has promised to

take prompt action whenever they receive a report of

the microwave policy being violated.

 

I think we vegans have to cut this company a bit of

slack, especially early on. They were cool enough to

write this special microwave request into their

company-wide regulations, and they did it specifically

to make vegetarian customers happy. Over time, there

is certain to be good compliance with this directive.
