Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I've been enjoying all the e-mail exchanges, I just wish I had more time read them more thoroughly. Two thumbs up to Chris and Tammy for bringing us together. Hope you all had fun at the birthday party! I had to work or I would have been there. By the way, I'm the co-chair of EarthSave and wanted to invite you all to a couple of EarthSave events coming up. At our next potluck, On Sunday, April 28th, from 5:30 to 8:30, CLAIRE HOPE CUMMINGS, KPFA's Food and Farming Reporter, speaks on the PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL PERILS OF BEING A PROGRESSIVE JOURNALIST reporting on the contentious subject of GMOs in food and farming. Claire Hope Cummings weekly radio program on KPFA, and her reporting for other broadcast and print outlets, frequently covers genetic engineering in a media world dominated by industry campaigns and pro-technology advocates. Learn what’s happening from an insider. Ask away. Claire just returned from a trip to Mexico where she has been investigating the GMO contamination of corn at its center of origin for Worldwatch Magazine. Claire Hope Cummings is a lawyer, journalist and a Food and Society Policy Fellow. She has been actively involved in covering agricultural genetic engineering for 10 years and is an author of The EMS' Reporter's and Editor's Guide to Agricultural Genetic Engineering. She has been involved in agriculture for over 30 years, as a farmer both here in California and in Vietnam, as lawyer for the USDA and a public interest environmental lawyer for twenty years and as a writer and activist. The next event will be OUR 6TH ANNUAL SPRING CELEBRATION!!! It will be held on Sunday, May 19th from 3:00 to 8:00. It will be an indoor and outdoor party with gourmet picnic cuisine at the beautiful Unitarian Church in San Rafael (just 15 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge) I'm thrilled to have my favorite local band to come and play, The Jerry Hannan Band. Here's a detailed description: Often described as " shades of Dylan, John Prine and Van Morrison… very American with a faint Irish lilt " , Hannan's songs (like those of Springsteen, Steve Earle and Dylan) speak of our everyday lives and the magic that we sometimes miss. His irreverent, twisted style has been described as smart, often funny, sardonic in a good natured way, dealing with issues like ecology, friendship and love. More important, " these tunes have irrepressible melodies with Velcro-catchy pop hooks. " Says Paul Liberatore of the Marin Independent Journal. His live performances are attended by loyal fans anxious to, " get their fix. " They listen. They participate. They feel among friends. The details of the party are still in the works. If you'd care to join us in the planning stages or would like to volunteer, we will have a meeting tomorrow evening (Wednesday, April 3) at Fresh Choice restaurant in Corte Madera. Please phone 415.258.9802 to let me know you're interested. In the meantime, please write down the dates of these two great events and call the EarthSave hotline for more details. 415.383.9143. Hope you can all make it. Syndee Collison Co-Chair of EarthSave Marin
