Dear Friends,

In the following short piece, Alex Hershaft - founder & president of the

Farm Animal Reform Movement - weighs in on the BK Veggie controversy. Hope

you find it interesting.

Cheers,

Alka

I agree with everything Alex Hershaft has to say. Regardless of why

I am veg*n, it is, in my opinion, unquestionably without a doubt a

good thing that BK has a veggie burger. I don't know of any veg*n

who thinks otherwise!

The only controvery around this product that I can think of is the

suggestion that seems to encourage vegans to personally support (eat)

this non-vegan product. Since vegans are such a small percentage of

the population (less than 1%), and BK itself says this product is not

targeted towards vegans, it's a moot point whether vegans eat it or

not.

However, I absolutely agree that we should all be actively promoting

it to our veggie and non-veggie friends who like fast food!

I work in downtown SF and just walked by this Burger Place I'd never

noticed before (Bistro Burger). One section of their menu is

entirely Veggie Burgers (big letters, visible from the sidewalk as

you walk by). THAT is why BK is doing the Veggie Burger. Not for us

vegans, for all those other folks who want a veggie option and BK

wants them to have that veggie option at their store. To them, it's

just dollars and cents (not sense).
