Guest guest
Hi! Welcome to the group! I personally like the Amy's Texas and California burgers. The Texas style is more like a " real " burger, where the California burger is more like a traditional veggie patty. Both get thumbs-up from my non-veg husband, too. Guest guest
Boca Burgers! They totally rock. The vegan original are not only vegan (heh) but they are the tastiest. Brush some oil on them and grill them while frozen until they are warm through-out. They are pre-cooked. I actually haven't grilled them but they shouldn't fall apart. I fry them all the time. Try to get the big size if you can. Costco has them in boxes of 12 or so or I think Whole Foods has the big ones (they definately have them). They are about 4 " across and the small ones are about 3 " . Cyndi -- _____________________________ " There's nothing wrong with me. Maybe there's Cyndi Norman something wrong with the universe. Guest guest
Amen sister! My favorite of the Boca Burgers is " vegan original. " My dad (a very picky carnivore) couldn't even tell they weren't meat! And if you're feeling lazy or in a hurry, you can zap them in the microwave for about a minute on high, right in the little plastic wrapper. Not bad for lunch at work. j9 Cyndi Norman [cyndi] Monday, April 22, 2002 3:25 PM justjennystudios Cc: ; cyndi Re: [sFBAVeg] Good Veggie Burgers Boca Burgers! They totally rock. Guest guest
" Jeannine Broadwell " <j9 Mon, 22 Apr 2002 20:05:02 -0700 My favorite of the Boca Burgers is " vegan original. " My dad (a very picky carnivore) couldn't even tell they weren't meat! I've had carnivore ( " I don't eat fake meat " ) friends like them so much they went out of their way to buy them after leaving my home. Another note: the vegan original ones are gluten-free. Some of the others have a trace of gluten but this one is 100% safe for my friends who can't have *any* gluten (one friend is so reactive you can't use any utensils on her food that have touched something with wheat or another gluten product...but she can eat Boca Burgers). And if you're feeling lazy or in a hurry, you can zap them in the microwave for about a minute on high, right in the little plastic wrapper. Not bad for lunch at work. This is where I have to disagree. Microwaves and plastic do not mix. Plastic isn't as bad as styrofoam (even mainstream chemists NEVER nuke styrofoam) but it still leaches into your food in a microwave. For work you can use Pyrex food containers with plastic lids (remove the lid before nuking) or just keep a plate around. Paper plates and paper towels are acceptable. I know I'm weird but I even like Boca Burgers cold. Cooked the night before with melted cheese (or whatever you like), mayo, and sauteed veggies. They're great right out of the fridge. You can also put two together with the goodies on the inside and surround with lettuce for a sandwich, hot or cold (I eat lowcarb...you can of course use bread). Can you tell I'm in Boca Burger withdrawal?...time to go to Costco! Cyndi -- _____________________________ " There's nothing wrong with me. Guest guest
Good point about the plastic. Thanks ma'am. j9 Cyndi Norman [cyndi] Monday, April 22, 2002 8:50 PM j9 Cc: ; cyndi Re: [sFBAVeg] Good Veggie Burgers " Jeannine Broadwell " <j9 And if you're feeling lazy or in a hurry, you can zap them in the microwave for about a minute on high, right in the little plastic wrapper. Guest guest
" meowthunk " <tammy Tue, 23 Apr 2002 04:54:21 -0000 I do agree, however, that the Boca burgers are tasty. My carnivorous parents even like/buy those. There are two types of Boca vegan burgers - I believe the ones at Costco (sold in the red box, large patties, 12 or so to a box) do contain GMO ingredients while they have created another " premium " line produced without GMO ingredients & sold in natural food stores. Just FYI if that's a concern to you. I think the Yves brand products do not contain GMO ingredients but you should double check. Both Yves and Boca Burgers are made from non-GMO soy...to the extent that you can ever say that (there is contamination *everywhere*). Yves (one of my favorite manufacturers) is unfortunately not organic. Boca Burgers has a non-organic and an organic line, which is what I'm guessing you're referring to. Though most of the food I eat is organic, the Boca Burgers I buy are not. The organic ones are hard to find, not available inexpensively, and taste different. I do like the other flavors of Boca Burgers for variation (salsa is good) but the original are my favorites. Cyndi -- _____________________________ " There's nothing wrong with me. Guest guest
Also in agreement here... Boca Burgers (made in Madison, WI, a couple hours down the road) are available at Sam's Club outlets, as well.
