Guest guest
Dear Friends, My informal poll on appropriate times for the Shameway leafleting yielded five responses with five totally different answers. Since I self-identify as an anarchist, and am loathe to make autocratic decisions, I'm going to mix it up a bit. Here are the leafleting times & places for the next three weeks. We'll see what works and what doesn't and make decisions from there. 1. Sunday, April 28th, 1 pm - 2:30 pm (after the Herbivore brunch!), Safeway at Church & Market in San Francisco 2. Sunday, May 5th, 2 pm - 3:30 pm (after our teach-in at Cell Space in San Francisco; video screening & panel discussion featuring Bruce Friedrich of PETA - details on teach-in to follow in subsequent email), Safeway at Church & Market in San Francisco 3. Saturday, May 11th, 10:30 am - 11:45 am (just before Polly's party), Safeway at College & Claremont in Berkeley 4. No leafleting on Sunday, May 12th. 5. Thursday, May 16th, 12:15 pm - 1:30 pm: HUGE DEMONSTRATION at Safeway Shareholder Meeting at San Ramon Marriott. Important Note: Six of the eight spots on the Shameway cheerleading squad have been filled, including a blonde-wig-flouncing, makeup-donning, cross-dressing, glitter-glamming trumpet player in a skirt and pom poms. Kelle Kacmarcik has purchased the fabric for the skirts (little flare numbers in red & white) and the pom poms. We're working on the letters. If you've always entertained a secret desire to be a cheerleader, this is your chance! We will also have a huge banner from PETA, and lots of wonderful, upbeat, rousing activities to keep us entertained. Please consider taking an extra-long lunch hour for this event. We will be organizing carpools. Be part of history as the animal rights movement pressures the first international grocery chain to take responsibility for the living and dying conditions of farmed animals. Need more motivation? Check out the videos on http://www.shameway.com While we debate the efficacy of different tactics, this tactic (of pressuring corporations to guarantee that their suppliers will institute better animal welfare conditions) has a proven track record of three for three (McDonald's, Burger King & Wendy's). Hope to see many of you at the upcoming events! Best regards, Alka
Guest guest
Arghh! I thought I'd checked and double-checked this email. Please note that Polly's party is on Sunday, May 12th and not on Saturday, May 11th. Accordingly, the demo for that weekend will be on Sunday, May 12th, from 10:30 am to 11:45 am, at the Safeway in Berkeley at College and Claremont (as per Polly's email). So sorry for any confusion.
