Guest guest
Hi all, Just thought I'd post back to the list about our brunch there on Sunday. I think only one of the eight of us had ever had brunch there. We were all pleased and impressed with our choices. My selection was the savory crepes served with curry sauce (3 crepes + potato hash browns). Very yummy! I had a side order of the tempeh bacon and that was also excellent. Other dishes ordered included the fruit crepes, various tofu scrambles (basil pesto scramble, southwestern scramble), french toast, etc. The prices ranged from about $6 to $9. The decor is very much like the Herbivores on Valencia, with expanded outdoor seating. While the breakfast menu is new, their lunch/dinner menu appears to feature the same selection as the original Herbivores. All in all, we gave the food 8 thumbs up! For conversation and comraderie, another 8 thumbs. We enjoyed it so much, we just might do it again :-) After brunch, some of us went over to Safeways at Church & Market for the Shameway " demo/protest " . It was very convenient to get there, only about 5 minutes away. The goal of the Shameway campaign (launched by PETA and the Food & Social Justice Project) is for improved conditions for the animals, something I'm sure we all agree with. Generally, I think most people (regardless if they are veg*n or not) would be supportive of this if they realized the conditions that the animals are raised in, and exactly how they are slaughtered. Anyways, so this is important work that happens on Sunday. It's more than just standing around on the street corner socializing with your friends. Well, I have to be truthful.... that's really all I did! Yes, really! I sometimes held one of the signs, or the big banner. Occasionally I passed out a leaflet when an interested person requested one. There were others who were actively passing out leaflets and engaging customers and folks walking by. This is basically a forum for everyone to offer support at whatever level they are comfortable with. Your presence makes a big difference, whether you are standing there holding a sign and not saying a word to anyone, or actively engaging people in conversation. This is not confrontational at all, and very low key. So, if you have never been to a leafletting demo type activity like this, you should attend the next one and try it. It's far more of a sociable activity than most folks realize. So give it a try! I think we'll probably have another combo Brunch/Leafletting in SF..... And, I'm lobbying for the Broccoli Boys to make an appearance! http://www.lettuceladies.com/broc.html But until then - Sunday, May 5th, 2 pm - 3:30 pm (after our teach-in at Cell Space in San Francisco; video screening & panel discussion featuring Bruce Friedrich of PETA - details on teach-in to follow in subsequent email), Safeway at Church & Market in San Francisco Sunday, May 12th 10:30 am - 11:45 am - Demo / Party / Raffle - Demo at Safeway at College & Claremont in Berkeley FOLLOWED BY Polly's Party, featuring yummy catered vegan food.
