Guest guest
In my opinion the less vegan junk (Processed, high fat, denatured) food the better.. OK now that I have P.O.ed the AR junk food junkies..(Tofu and soymilk are highly processed. Tempeh is a whole food) It would be nice if a vegan diet could be assumed to be a healthy diet. But how about starting with a healthy (whole food) diet & make it an even healthier vegan one? And a bit of exercise would not hurt either? (Unhealthy vegans do not do much for converting prevegans) I love TJs for their frozen organic: raspberries, blueberries, and corn. I defrost the berries and mix in cracked flaxseed (coffee grinder).. for a raw healthy cobbler. I drink lots of their organic carrot juice. (mixed w fresh organic: ginger or unpasturized orange juice from elsewhere) I love a bowl of their corn (defrosted and warmed by hot tap water) Now to P.O. my raw friends: I love a huge bowl of their toasted organic oatmeal with the frozen berries mixed in after dare I say..cooking.. to cool it and make it wonderful.. Love and blessings to all Jay kens_catwoman [kens_catwoman] Tuesday, April 30, 2002 1:50 PM Trader Joe favorites.... Just sitting here munching on my Robert's American Gourmet " Veggie Booty " & thought I should just pass along to anyone who hasn't tried it how great it is...similar to cheese popcorn but with spinach & kale. I want to encourage everyone to buy it because it seems like TJ's drops every vegan food I get excited about there--I assume from poor sales. The other great food there is the frozen potato/soy chorizo taquitos--pretty fattening but yummy! I'm really mad at TJ's because they (at least Pleasanton) seem to have dropped Tofutti cream cheese--I also couldn't find it at Berkeley Bowl. It is so frustrating because on their website they make it in like 8 flavors & I am lucky if I can find it anywhere here (also the sour cream substitute.) It is pretty sad the lack of good health food stores in a supposedly progressive area like the bay area. Whole (Paycheck) just doesn't cut it for me. By the way, in San Luis Obispo they have 2 great stores; a tiny co-op that still manages to have a pretty good selection of foods & ok prices, and a bigger health food store with a great deli & great cheese substitute section. Sigh! At least TJ's keeps a good soymilk selection & better prices than most places.
Guest guest
Also they have dried organic bananas.. Great for hikes & over coming junk food cravings.. The frozen mangos (not organic unfortunately) are great... Defrosted they taste like canned peaches. Part thawed and thrown in the blender with water they make great Mango juice or smoothies. Cooked with a pinch of green curry paste (TJs) they make a great, but hot mango chutney.
Guest guest
Our favorite snack at Trader Joe's is a store brand product called " Soy Crisps " . They are baked thin chips in a Sweet BBQ flavor. They are like puffy rice chips. And, because they're baked not fried, they're not as high in fat as other chip type snacks. They do not last long around this house! :-) If you look for them, they do come in more than one flavor. But the Sweet BBQ one is the only vegan flavor. My other favorite is their frozen vegan pizza, it's called " ratatouille " (sp?) Cheers, Tammy
