Don't Let the Horrendous Farm Bill Pass After months of negotiations, the Farm Bill (HR 2646) is finally coming to a vote in Congress. The vote is expected either this week or next, so your help is urgently needed. Although the bill has to do mainly with farm subsidies, there is a section that would affect more than 20 million rats, mice, and birds, who constitute 95 percent of all animals used in labs each year. This section would exclude rats, mice, and birds from the protections of the Animal Welfare Act. If the bill passes, it will give free reign to the research industry to subject these animals to appalling procedures and conditions that would be illegal for any other warm-blooded animals. Please call both of your U.S. senators and your representative today and urge them to vote â œnoâ ? on the Farm Bill (HR 2646).
