Guest guest
Dear Friends, Just a quick reminder of the leafleting event outside of the Safeway grocery store at Church & Market in San Francisco this Sunday, May 5th, from 2-3:30 pm. As Tammy noted in her recent email, these leafleting events really do have something for everyone. * If you have an evangelical streak (as some of us seem to have), you can pass out leaflets and engage passersby in the issues on the shameful conditions in which animals are raised and killed by Safeway's suppliers of meat, dairy, and eggs. Our interactions with passersby have been largely positive. The Safeway campaign is a brilliant opportunity to educate people on the fundamentals of factory farming. * If you prefer to stand in witness, you can do that, silently holding a sign. Holding a sign that reads, " Safeway Means Animal Abuse " at the corner of Church & Market is so effective in getting people to think about the treatment of animals. * If you like to chat with your friends, we have several banners, which you can hold while chatting with your friends. We own one banner, and have another one on loan from PETA. They're both large, colorful, and beautiful - to say nothing of amazingly effective. So, grab a friend with whom you'd like to catch up, and come on down to Church & Market this Sunday. You can socialize and contribute to the campaign all at the same time. Really, something for everyone. What? Safeway Leafleting Social featuring colorful leaflets for passing out, bold signs to get the message out to larger numbers of people, banners to communicate the message more effectively, and a TV/VCR-screening of undercover videos taken at Safeway's suppliers of meat, dairy, and eggs. When? Sunday, May 5, 2002, 2 pm - 3:30 pm Where? Safeway Grocery Store, Church & Market, San Francisco Why? Check out: http://www.shameway.com, and then ask yourself, Why Not? Who? You and all your friends! As an added incentive, we will have an informal teach-in style brunch at the new Herbivore (at 531 Divisadero in SF) prior to the leafleting event. Please do RSVP to me (not mandatory, of course - it is a public restaurant! - but it would be nice so we know how much we should bring in the way of materials). What? Brunch at Herbivore (531 Divisadero in San Francisco) When? Sunday, May 5, 2002, 11 am - 1:30 pm Where? Herbivore (531 Divisadero) Why? To meet informally, discuss issues connected with the Shameway campaign, local activities, etc. The teach-in that we had hoped to have at Cell Space had to be postponed to a yet-to-be-determined later date (in June or July), due to a number of issues in connection with local activism, the availability of Cell Space, and the desire to market the event to a larger audience. Please do stay tuned to the event that we have planned -- a panel discussion, film screening, organizing of local activists around the Shameway campaign and vegan issues in general, all over a spread of vegan finger foods and drinks. Hope to see many of on Sunday. Cheers, Alka
Guest guest
Dear Friends, I knew I shouldn't be sending emails out hurriedly in the midst of an office move! Correction on the last email (below): We will have brunch at Herbivore II at 12 noon, not 11 am. Sorry for the error. Thanks, Pete, for alerting me to the mistake. Yikes!! Okay, back to packing boxes.
