Guest guest
Hi all, I just got back from the co-op with the " breast " type product from this manufacturer. I would like to hear anyone's comments, experiences or suggestion concerning this item... that is, before I prepare it. Guest guest
Veat was great, especially their " salmon " fillet, which came out right before I went vegan. These companies like VEAT, Quorn, etc. that won't sell vegan products always claim that the dairy or eggs gives their product texture or flavor that cannot be duplicated with vegan alternatives, but I think this a load of crap. The real reason? Companies get huge tax breaks for using dairy because there is a surplus of dairy farmers need to unload thanks to the hormones like BGH. The dairy industry $cratche$ politicians' backs, and the politicians $cratche$ dairy farmers' backs, if you catch my drift. The only companies I'm aware of that seem committed to making strictly vegan mock meats are Yves (owned by HAIN) and Turtle Island Foods (Tofurky). It's all very frustrating to new vegans because they may be unaware what the hell things like " casein " and " whey " are. , nadiana1@a... wrote: > > Pixx mentioned it was a product made by VEAT. > > I have not seen any VEAT in the stores around here, > > but I understand folks who have tried them generally > > enjoy the flavor; and it is vegan > > > veat is very yummy, but is not, unfortunately, vegan. it contains whey, and > the company says that they do not know if they will come out with a vegan > product. :( it's a durn shame; i really liked their stuff before i went > vegan. > > melody > > http://www.melodysmusic.net
Guest guest
Aw, bummer. I have never seen a package before but assumed it was vegan b/c of the name. Thanks for clearing that up; and it is too bad they don't also make vegan products. ~ PT ~ I always thought that my canine family tended to view me as the funny-looking two-legged dog who runs the can opener. ~ Roger Caras ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~~~~> , nadiana1@a... wrote: > veat is very yummy, but is not, unfortunately, vegan. it contains whey, and > the company says that they do not know if they will come out with a vegan > product. :( it's a durn shame; i really liked their stuff before i went > vegan. > > melody
Guest guest
Jane - I don't have any recipes, I just make stuff up as I go...I like it too, I like the texture & the ease. I checked out their website hoping for some great recipes but found none, bummer! I use the veat nuggets for sweet & sour " chicken " ...and I alternate between veat and tofu in stir fries, teriyakis, etc. I've done fajita's with it - those are a hit! I also use it like I said for a chicken and gravy dinner. I'd like to try " chicken noodle soup " , but don't know how it would work soaked in broth...if I try I'll let you know. I love the idea of a pot pie with it - that will be my next venture, perhaps you'll share your recipe?? I have tried the " fish " one - I like it as it is, serving it like fish with sides, the family is not to crazy about it. I also tried this with the chicken breast, same reaction, they don't mind it cooked into stuff, but aren't to keen on it alone. They much prefer pankoed (is that a word) and sauted tofu! m
Guest guest
Quorn and Veat don't seem to be available in Canada, either (batting a thousand, here), but thankfully the company I work for makes some awesome vegetarian products, and my staff discount is really helpful (why does fake meat cost more than real meat?) Guest guest
I used to buy Veat all the time in Oh, it was perfect for recipes with chicken soup, etc....in fact it 's a little too realistic! I haven't found it in TN. I thought maybe they had discontinued it or something. i have heard that the Quorn chick products are good, I haven't tried them yet. , purplepassion <thelilacflower> wrote: > > PT, Anne posted a recipe yesterday for making soynog.
