Hello Jay & other friends,

Due to a conflict, I won't be able to attend the event at Cell Space, but I

notice that Mark Pistil's electronic dub collective is also on the RTFM

label. For those who may not know (those who don't care can just delete

right now!), Mark Pistil played bass guitar for Consolidated, a three-piece

band of political rappers hailing from SF, and very big in the late

80's/early 90's. Vegan and very pro-animal rights, Consolidated reached the

peak of their career in 1989/1990 with their album, " Friendly Fascism. "

Featuring titles such as " Sexual Politics of Meat " (offering Carol Adams

reading from her seminal text to the backdrop of industrial rhythms) and

" Meat Stinks " (offering a collection of " realities " - a la John Robbins -

again set against a powerful beat), Consolidated have liberally sampled the

voice of Ingrid Newkirk of PETA in their songs against meat consumption,

abuse of animals in laboratories, rape of the wild, patriarchy, rampant

consumerism; alienation under modern capitalism, and other light subject

matter. They're one of my all-time-favorite groups; really wonderful and

interesting.

Philip Steir, the drummer for Consolidated, produced two benefit

compilations for In Defense of Animals, which are, in my mind, among the

very best of the many animal rights benefit compilations.

Have fun tonight, Jay!

Cheers,

Alka

someone really need one.
