Guest guest
Another vegan with kitty companions here. Like Stephanie, I also wish it were otherwise, but I have yet to be convinced that cats can survive without eating animal flesh. Pardon me for saying this, but the story sounds made up, like urban legend or something. If it's true, here's what I have to say about it: As for trying to break kitties of the " habit " of mousing, and for tying kitty on a leash...!!! That is animal cruelty, in my book. I feel sorry for the mice and birds my two little feline roommates trap and kill, (if the poor things are still alive, I take them and release them over the fence, to either die in peace with a prayer from me, or to hopefully have another chance) but we have an entire neighborhood of backyards and gardens right outside my studio's patio door, so there's no way they're not going to carry out their inborn instincts. Try breaking a lion of that nasty " habit " of stalking and killing gazelles. That is the result of evolution, it's not " habit " . A habit is something we start to do, like smoking or drinking, say, and then become chemically addicted to or choose to continue doing. We're not born with habit. Cats are born with the instinct to hunt and kill. To try to train them not to do that, especially by tying them up, is absolutely cruel. I would never want someone who would do this to any animal to mind my two guys, even for an hour. If this person exists, and if they really care about the well-being of this poor cat, I hope they will consider finding a suitable home for the cat, with someone who won't treat them this way. And then find a good vegan counselor for themselves, to figure out why they try to impose their own warped human-centric values on members of another species.
