Hi folks,

I learned of this unfortunate development from another list (forwarded

message below). The Ganges is a good restaurant, my favorite place for

Indian food.

This weekend will be an opportunity to enjoy their food one more time.

>The physical sheath that held the Gorilla Grotto, Gary Warne's bookstore

>cafe and play space, will undergo yet another transformation this

>weekend.

>

>Gary Warne, original founder of the Suicide Club, ran a bookstore here

>in the 1980's. Since then, the space has been occupied

>for many years by an unpretentious but deluxe vegetarian

>Indian restaurant, The Ganges. The original owners,

>Malvi Doshi and her husband Arun, sold it several years ago to her

>musician friend Kooko, who had entertained the patrons during regular

>weekend concerts. Kooko has continued the menu and traditions of The

>Ganges. However, his landlord recently proposed doubling the rent,

>and he has decided to close it. Sunday will be the last day of the

>Ganges Restaurant.

>

>Come for dinner to celebrate excellent vegetarian Indian food, Indian

>music, and reaffirm the space that held Gary Warne's pillowfight

>playpen, bookstore, cafe, and film series. Come in memory of the

>founder of the Suicide Club, Gorilla Grotto, Communiversity, and

>progenitor of today's Cacophony Society. Be decorative and properly

>reverent to the spirit of fun that Gary brought to everything.
