Guest guest
Hi Kelle and everyone, >I'm writing in response to Tammy's paragraph about list members contact >information being sold. I just wanted to clarify that Kelle's statement above is not about any of SFBAVeg's email list contact info being sold... but a discussion thread resulting from an anonymous request for information which included email contact info. Kelle, I'm glad you wrote and while I do feel strongly about junk mail, I know there are other opinion in the universe apart from mine :-) What is " junk " to one could be " treasure " to another. For example, someone helping me in my garden once pulled up my basil plant thinking it was a weed. I used to have a manager who loved getting catalogs and other unsolicited mail... Junk mail is one of my " pet peeves " ... Even if the organization uses recycled paper, and I recycle it (which I do), and the organization has the best intentions which are fully in alignment with my beliefs, I still think organizations who collect this information have a responsibility to respect an individual's wishes not to be placed on mailing lists. They have a responsibility to their members who support their organization to spend the money in a manner that best supports the organization's goals. Personally, I've never given money to a new group resulting from only a direct mailing. I donate to groups that I have first-hand experience with or groups that have impressed me with the campaigns they are conducting (from live presentations or articles in magazines or online publications). Usually if I get too many mailings from a group, I will stop supporting them since I feel they are spending too much money on mailings and probably classifying them (in their annual reporting) as educational outreach instead of fundraising to make their bottom line look better. (Which the " Animal People " newspaper has reported on occasionally) That's just my two cents, which of course will vary from everyone else... Attack of the Junk Mail Clones starts at my home!
