Hi Janice,

Here is something going on tonight regarding the

Whaling Treaty. It should be a good addition to the

lists that you are on.

Love,

Moi

Dear Friends,

Just received confirmation that Mark Palmer, Assistant of Earth Island Institute's International

Marine Mammal Project, will join our monthly meeting

at Tamalpais Bank this Monday, June 3rd, at 7pm. Mark

just returned from attending the International Whaling

Commission meeting in Shimonoseki, Japan, and he will

report on the commission's discussions and positions

regarding eliminating the ban on commercial whaling,

aboriginal subsistence whaling rights, and on other

marine concerns INCLUDING LFA SONAR. The commission

has representatives from 45 countries, numerous

international ocean organizations, and the press.

Mark is currently en route to Seattle to be a

presenter at a three-day Orca Recovery Conference,

sponsored by Earth Island Institute/Orca Recovery

Campaign; the Center for Conservation Biology,

Department of Zoology, University of Washington; the

Orca Conservancy; and the Canadian Consulate General,

Seattle. On Monday Mark will share news from the

conference, and he'll answer your questions about the

issue and the orca recovery campaign.

I hope that you will be able to join our monthly

meeting and take advantage of this rich opportunity.
