Guest guest
Dear Friends, Just a quick reminder ( & confirmation) that the Food & Social Justice Project is hosting a strategy meeting this Thursday evening (June 6th, 7 pm), at the main branch of the San Francisco Public Library. We will be meeting in the First Floor Conference Room, located behind the 1st Floor Information Desk. Please use the 30 Grove Street entrance. We'll conduct the formal part of the meeting in the library from 7 - 7:50 pm. And, we will continue informal discussions/brainstorming/chatting/socializing across the street at the falafel joint on Grove Street (it's right across from the library - how fortuitous!). Through the meeting, we will brainstorm through a number of ideas for promoting vegetarianism in the Bay Area, including: * Vegan Video Brigade (taking our baby faunette to street corners with heavy pedestrian traffic, playing video footage of factory farms & slaughterhouses, and distributing literature) * Vegan Feed-Ins (taking veggie food -- boca burgers, fake chicken nuggets, etc. to areas with heavy pedestrian traffic & distributing literature - can be done in conjunction with V.V.B.) * Tabling at Festivals this summer (how do we make the most of summer tabling opportunities, and what sorts of resources might we use to build the most effective tabling display?) * Writer's Group - Media (let's make a difference in our local media by writing op-eds en masse, letters to the editor en masse, etc. - if a lot of us throw ourselves into this activity, the editors won't be able to ignore us, and we can achieve presence for the issues in the press) * Farm Sanctuary Walkathons for the Bay Area - let's plan together to make this year's walks (and fundraising parties) the best ever!! * National Campaigns: what are some of the national campaigns with which we can get involved? Farm Sanctuary's sentient beings campaign (we could get Berkeley, Oakland, SF, SJ, etc. to sign on, adding a tremendous boost to the national campaign) * Cooking Classes/Veggie Workshops: since food *is* after all the currency of the veggie movement, what kind of forums might we construct to get the veggie message out to the maximum number of folks? * Going Veggie 101: Let's discuss options for doing introductory classes of veg*ism in the Bay Area. * public video screenings & discussions - we could host screenings of films like Farm Sanctuary's new film on factory farming (narrated by Mary Tyler Moore), video footage from the three investigations of egg-laying facilities that took place over the past year, etc. There are more ideas at: www.goveg.com/a-promote.html Hope to see many of you on Thursday! Best regards, Alka -------------------------------
