Guest guest
Dear Friends, I'm forwarding this on behalf of my dear friend, Laurel Kadish, who works for PCRM. Laurel has been tireless in her efforts assisting feral cats. If anyone can help Laurel with the situation described below, that would be so fabulous! Thank you, Alka BayLaurel1 [bayLaurel1] PLEASE HELP- Feral Colony! Hello Everyone, As some of you know, Brian and I are moving to Oakland as of July 1st (to try to SAVE money on rent for a change!) For the past four years, we have been feeding and watering a colony of four feral cats who live here in our SOMA alley. We trapped these guys when we moved in four years ago and had them all spayed and neutered -- and then released them and continued to manage the colony. Now that we are moving away, I am extremely concerned about their future. We are unable to take them to our new home in Oakland with us. Ideally, we would love it if someone who lives in the neighborhood could take over their daily feeding and watering (which takes about 2 minutes a day.) That way, they could stay in their familiar suroundings and avoid the stress of a relocation. Barring that, we will need to re-trap all of them and hopefully re-locate them where someone could take over their feeding and watering. We are looking for people who would be willing to take them into their backyard or vacant lot, or who might even already have a managed feral cat colony where we could integrate our four. I would prefer all four stay together because, even though cats are not pack animals, these wild guys have been hanging out with one another their whole lives and are bonded. They are a good-looking bunch of two males and two females (one all gray, one all black, a brown tabby, and a cream-colored) who will bring their wild feline grace into your neighborhood. And they are more than happy to put on their little predator hats when it comes to rodents! They come equipped with a miniature carpeted igloo that they pile into when the wind or rain is especially heinous. Feeding them is not terribly expensive -- a jumbo size bag of AlleyCat (a very inexpensive brand with few or no additives, and I believe, no renderings, costs about $9 and lasts for maybe a month or more. And quite frequently over the years, we have been most grateful to have had cat food donated from the SPCA Feral Program, the SF-Food Bank, etc. SO PLEASE, if anyone has any ideas, suggestions, support, or referrals for us, please let us know immediately! Also, please, please, please forward this on to other local lists -- vegetarian, feral cat, animal rights, etc. Call Laurel or Brian: 415-522-1294 home Brian at work: 415-957-4412 Laurel at work: 415-750-4790 THANK YOU IMMENSELY IN ADVANCE!!
