A Voice for Animals

Hi everyone,

 

I recently attended a workshop put on by the Humane Society of the United States

and the Fund for Animals, which focused on lobbying for animals. They introduced

their new Humane Activist Network, which is meant to strengthen the network of

animal advocates around the country in order to bring about long-term

legislative change for animals. As we all witnessed during the Farm Bill

debacle, anti-animal industries have tremendous influence over legislators, and

in order to turn this tide, we need to be a force that is just as strong -- OR

STRONGER.

 

I encourage you to join the Humane Activist Network, which essentially operates

much like a huge, nationwide phone tree. I have signed on as District Captain

(for District 9, which includes Oakland, Berkeley, Emeryville, and I think

Alameda), which means when urgent action is needed, I would contact the

activists on my list (this will happen about 5 times a year), who then contact

their legislators regarding particular legislation.

 

It's very simple, but it's powerful. When you receive the call, I would provide

you with ALL the information you need (bill #, background information on the

issue; the reason a legislator should support or oppose the bill; and, of

course, your legislator's name and contact information.)

 

All you need to do to sign on is reply to me and tell me your address and phone

number and that you want to sign on as an activist. For people outside my

" District, " for example those of you in San Francisco or the South Bay, etc.,

please feel free to send me your contact info, and I will put you in touch with

the District Captain in your area.

 

Every single person in the Network is critical to its success, as EVERY voice

for animals MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE. Please join the thousands of activists to

strengthen our political voice for animals.
