Hi everyone, Hi Ari!

I asked Ari if I could reply to his message on the list with some of my own

suggestions, and I was hoping that others would chime in with their ideas.

Ari, I think you've made a great start by finding this list; folks here are

interested in many different aspects of vegetarianism -- from just loving

the food to cooking to promoting veg*nism and animal rights. Definitely use

the list as a resource to ask questions or share new finds.

If I were new to the Bay Area (or SF specifically, as Ari is), here is what

I would have wanted someone to tell me:

Best Places for food:

Stores:

-Trader Joe's: lots of veggie stuff here, great prices, all over the bay

area

-Whole Foods: can be expensive, but huge selection

-SF Farmer's Markets:

My favorite restaurants (this month):

-new Herbivore's on Divisadero in SF for brunch (all veggie place)

-Lanesplitter's in Berkeley for their awesome vegan pizza (veggie friendly

place)

-see www.vegdining.com for more selections

Activist activities:

-The Food & Social Justice Project is doing a great job with the Friday

nites in SF " Vegan Video Brigade " . They are major attention-getters at

educating the public, most recently with PETA's Meet Your Meat (Alka has

been posting to the list with locations). Good way to meet other local

folks too.

-There are other organizations doing animal rights outreach (some post to

this list about their activities, some don't; check out the bookmarks

section for a few of them)

-I don't even know what everyone is doing! Since this is a local list, I

always appreciate it when folks working for veg*nism or animal rights tells

the rest of us what's happening and how we can get involved.

Social events (see calendar or bookmarks section for info)

-Bay Area Vegetarian Restaurant Trek can be a fun way to meet others who

like dining out (over 7 years now, and haven't repeated a restaurant!)

-Potlucks (there are veggie potlucks in the East Bay & SF, some are

exclusively raw)

Now I'd like to hear what others have to suggest! This could be a great FAQ

for our list in terms of local resources!

Cheers,

Tammy
