Guest guest
(this is from emailing them from their online email form at www.subaru.com) Dear Mr. Taylor: Thank you for sharing your concerns about the Subaru 'Outside the Box' TV commercial. Subaru created this ad with the best of intentions. It was designed to depict the release of a wild rabbit that was inappropriately caught and brought to school. Unfortunately, our message yielded an unintended conclusion - that a domesticated rabbit was being released into the wild. Subaru of America, Inc. in no way condones this irresponsible activity and apologizes for any confusion caused. In looking at ways to help alleviate any future confusion concerning this advertisement, we examined many alternatives. We listened to what people had to say. However, we have concluded that the best way to clarify our message is to remove the ad from the air (please note that it takes several days for local stations to remove this ad from their rotation schedules.) As you may know, Subaru has long been a friend to the environment and a proud supporter of organizations that help preserve it for future generations. We thank you again for sharing your concern, and ask that you help communicate our decision to friends and colleagues. Sincerely, John J. Mergen Subaru of America, Inc. -------------------------- YOUR ORIGINAL MAIL: The 'rabbit' ad currently showing in prime time where a domestic rabbit is taken out to the woods and 'released' depics an act of cruelty and shows that subaru is willing to depict brutality as 'gentleness' just to sell a few cars. Unless this ad is dropped I will tell all my friends never to buy another subaru (and several of them have them now.) R Taylor
