Guest guest
There is a big difference between " murder " and self defense and while I can feel empathy for the lose of loved animal companion I see little wrong with the actions of the officer. Obviously, you have never been attacked by a dog, I have and can tell you that one has little time to make a decision. If you wait to find out if the dog is just happy to see you or is going to attack you have waited too long. I still bare the scars from the unprovoked attack and would shoot another dog in the same situation without a second though instead of endure the pain and scars of another attack. Being a vegetarian doesn't mean that your respect for animals goes so far as not protecting oneself from unknown danger. German Shepards are one of the top five dogs most dangerous domestic dogs. They can be very protective of their home and owner. The officer had no way of knowing if the dog was greeting him or attacking. Charging dogs all look alike, menacing and dangerous. If you want to assign blame assign it to the thief or to your boyfriend that didn't post his house well enough so that the intruder would move on. Its a well known fact in police circles that the casual intruder looks for easy marks and homes with dogs are not at the top of most intruders list. gary Gary Scott gary_scott Beaverton, OR 97007 ICQ 132833237 MSN garys_pdx

I read some cases involving police shooting dogs. The courts seem to place weight (1) on the owner being present and (2) the dog not posing an immediate threat (i.e., charging). > Being a vegetarian doesn't mean that your respect for animals goes so > far as not protecting oneself from unknown danger.
