I'll play along.

I'm Erin. I just arrived at my new sublet in Berkeley

last night after surviving a hellish three-day trip on

the Greyhound in which I endured two flat tires just

outside Reno, nearly got beaten up by about 45 Texan

homophobes, learned that all my luggage had been lost

in Pittsburgh (it surfaced eventually), and arrived

reeking to high heavens. I've lived in the Bay Area

twice before (Rockridge and North Oakland) and used to

work in the Presidio, so I'm pretty familiar with the

area. I'm living in a veg collective with lots of

shared meals, which I'm really excited about. We

ordered a vegan pizza last night from this place

called Lane-something-or-other, which I believe is

just down the road on San Pablo. Apparently it's a bar

frequented by bikers that has wicked dairy-free

calzones. Yeehaw!

I am 26, Irish-American, and hail originally from

Philadelphia, dropped out of college nearly a decade

ago but hope to go back in January to start along the

lengthy road to a master's in library science, and

have been vegetarian since age 11. I regret that I did

not read Diet for a New America before age 17, because

I stopped eating animal-derived foods as soon as I

knew what was going on behind the scenes. I am

obsessed with The Mountain Goats, a smart acoustic

indie act that plays Bottom of the Hill semi-annually,

but also love Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, X, Mark

Eitzel, and The Smiths something fierce. I ride my

bicycle most everywhere, hope to never own a vehicle,

and love biography and non-fiction. I believe in life

after death but espouse no particular belief system.

Other things I love: Martha Stewart (her fall from

grace notwithstanding!), androgyny/genderqueers,

Franny and Zoe's vegan soft serve " ice cream " in

Manhattan, hitchhiking in the northern Midwest, dark

blue bootcut Levis, linoleum block printing, getting

on random buses to see where I end up, agitation

propaganda (politically-oriented art), spending time

with my girlfriend Francesca, who is a wonderful

Italian/vegan cook, hitting up every yard sale in a

five-mile radius, and selling things I got for thirty

cents for fifteen bucks on Ebay as often as possible

to willing victims.

I've worked just about every job in the book and will

probably end up being a Jill of all trades here too --

anyone who knows folks looking for dogwalkers or the

like should get in touch with me. If there exists in

the archives of this list a comprehensive list of area

restaurants catering to the herbivorous set. I really

encourage everyone else on here to write little bios!
