Low cholesterol and life expectancy

Last week, I read some posts related to a study that showed that

people with very low cholesterol levels were more likely to die

violently, particularly by suicide. I don't remember seeing any

responses to that, so thought I'd share what I'd heard as an

explanation. Drug abusers, particularly alcoholics, often have very

low cholesterol levels. The reason is that they don't eat much, just

drink or consume other drugs. As you know, alcohol contains no

cholesterol or fat, so this would be one way to achieve a very low

blood cholesterol level. Alcholics and other drug abusers often die

violently, very often by suicide. They are usually unhappy people.

On the other hand, those who achieve low cholesterol by being vegan

seem to be very upbeat, positive people, so their chances of dying

violently would be lower than normal, I'd bet.
