I like the products of Now and Zen Bakery. They do NOT use refined

sugars, such as fructose, or even evaporated cane juice in their pastries.

I haven't seen their baked goods on the shelves recently. Does anyone know

if they are still making their Un-cheesecakes and such? The last I remember

is that they were operating their bakery in the Potrero/Mission district.

There also is the Organic Cafe/Macrobiotic Grocery, on 40th St. in Oakland,

which I think makes excellent cookies, banana bread, and occasional pies and

cakes. They recently have had some changes in staffing, and I think it

wouldn't be too difficult to get involved there if you are interested. The

owner's name is Joel Huckins.

[sFBAVeg] Vegan Bakery/cafe needed in SF???

>Hello all!

>I'm looking to move to SF soon, and I'm a vegan chef/baker. it's my

>dream to have a vegan bakery (cookies, pies, biscotti, cakes,

>muffins, wedding cakes, brownies, all that delicious stuff!) I'm

>wondering what you folks, who are already living there, think about

>that idea? Do you think there is a demand for it or a lack of that

>sort of thing, or if it would survive and go over well? I just think

>it's rare these days to stumble upon a vegan bakery that makes

>everything homemade, nutritious, delicious, and organic! If anyone

>would care to comment about this idea, I'd love to hear any ideas

>from you. it's hard not being there to know what the community needs

>and where they need it. Thank you for your help!!
