Guest guest
I think the reason you'll see animal rights stuff on a group like this is that it is a hot issue with so much going on from week to week, if not on a daily basis. Once in a blue moon a new study will confirm the health benefits of a vegetarian diet and that would be the time for some discussion on it, but in general, most people on this list are already well informed in that area, so it is sort of like preaching to the choir. You'll like Vegetarian Times magazine, it has more emphasis on recipes, health, and a little environmental concerns with animal rights issues on the back burner. That's why I finally stopped subscribing to it! tony
Guest guest
One should never be disappointed by compassion. That's what animal rights are all about and that's why that subject is at the heart of this group. I hope you'll come to one of Alka's Friday night Vegan Video Brigade leafleting. If you do, you'll get a chance to see a video that will explain exactly why compassion is never out of fashion. - Funny Face Sunday, July 21, 2002 11:58 AM [sFBAVeg] I am disappointed I am vegetarian, and thought I can get some great idea on health issues, recipes, and make new friends thorugh this group. However, I am extremely disappointed that out of so many messages I have seen, there are more 'animal right' than vegetarian articles/postings. Com'on, humans do not start eating grass because they love animal. I think there are much more apparent reasons to become vegetarian. One of the key is that meat-based food is a great inefficient distribution of resource. In modern countries like USA, where we consume tonnes of meat, the ecology is compensated by millions of poorer population that has a meatless diet (they cannot afford). If everyone in the world is heavy into meat, we will be out of resource and all of us dead meat ourselves. Health - Feel better, live better http://health. Guest guest
Compassion begins with non-violence.. Saying how someone " should " feel .. is a form of violence. I highly recommend " Non-violent Communication " by Marshall Rosenberg.. With Compassionate Communication we improve our chances of getting our needs met without violence. Funny Face had stated her compassion for starving people. Mr. Pete wanted to convey the information at Alka's is helpful in understanding the suffering of animals. I was invited to protest the circus ~ ten years ago But I did not " get it " until today when I heard " Go Vegan Radio " with Ingrid Newkirk.. and for the first time " heard " of the " training " and treatment of the elephants. Then later got educated on " trained " Dolphins by the History channel on the Russian program and its results. There is plenty of compassion.. each of us is an infinite resource.. so start with yourself (no need to be an ascetic or martyr) ..and spread it around.
