Guest guest
Dear Friends, Paul McCartney once said, " If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian. " Well, slaughterhouses *don't* have glass walls, and they tend to operate in remote areas hundreds of miles from concentrated population centers. Ditto for factory farms. We know that most people, being decent and being compassionate, could not treat the animals as they are treated on factory farms and slaughterhouses -- abusively and without regard to their physical and psychological needs. Yet, most people easily purchase meat, dairy, and eggs, paying someone else to do their dirty work. The Vegan Video Brigade works to bridge the gap between people's compassionate sensibilities and their less-than-compassionate purchases. By filling in the middle picture - what happens to animals so that we can have meat, dairy, and eggs - consumers are empowered to make informed decisions. (Almost) every Friday, the Vegan Video Brigade -- an undertaking of the Food & Social Justice Project -- takes to the streets of San Francisco, screening Meet Your Meat and other fine videos. We pass out brochures that trumpet the health, environmental, and animal protection benefits of a vegan diet, and engage passersby in constructive dialogue. And, we have fun. Hope you can join us! Cheers, Alka Here's the tentative schedule (just a sketch) for the next few weeks: Friday, July 26th, 7 pm: North Beach (generally: on Columbus at Stockton <-- I want to check this intersection first; precise details to follow) Friday, August 2nd, 7:30 pm: Marina (again: exact locale to be determined) Friday, August 9th --> I will be out of town. If anyone would like to take responsibility for this, super. Otherwise, we'll just take a break for this week. Friday, August 16th --> BREAK! Cooking class on Saturday and fundraising tea party on Sunday, so full schedule already. If anyone would like to take the equipment and gather a cadre to go out, cool! Friday, August 23rd --> 7 pm, the Mission (probably Valencia Street) Friday, August 30th --> 7 pm, Justin Herman Plaza (Embarcadero) Friday, September 6th --> 7 pm, Market & Powell
