Guest guest
I tried the Bay leaf Cafe in Palo Alto last week after reading the posting here on Pearl tea. I was delighted.. I made an adventure for myself by saying to myself " map I don't need no Stinking map.. " remembering it to be one bock east of Alma " (it is three blocks east) between University & Hamilton. (Same street as the Historic Cardinal Hotel.. check it out after) I walked right in and ordered me a scoop of Chocolate almond brownie in a sugar cone.. They warned me that the cone had some honey in it.. But what hey.. (This is a Soy Delicious product) and I am not sure it is slave free (Ivory Coast Cocoa) Need to live sometimes.. Anyway if you can get past the >20 great vegan flavors.. (there are also >20 true ice creams...) these people know their stuff and stock only the best Double Rainbow etc. & You are " treated better than family " Anyway I came for the food.. It looked very interesting from their website.. Using my brain I asked what they recommended.. He recommended the Carrot Roll ( and the lotus root something ) The Carrot Roll was fantastic I also enjoyed the pearl tea.. but my guest found it not to her taste I think partly because she did not know what to expect where as I knew. I also ordered a conventional veggie burger figuring one exotic was enough.. It was good but after the carrot roll.. it was. conventional Had to leave with a double scoop choc on top of cherry.. I highly recommend this place as a cut above any place in the bay area in both food , service , & vegan friendly or just plain friendly. Note: they are only open 11am to 6pm so it has to be an early dinner or lunch
