Guest guest
I agree with Dr. Dean Edell on this issue. People have to take personal responsibility. What next? Sue the car industry because we could be riding our bikes for exercise? Sue elevator manufacturers because we could have walked up steps? tony On 7/25/02 9:33 AM, " Chandna, Alka " <alka.chandna wrote: > Dear Friends, > > This early in the morning, this article is a cross between surreal and > interesting. > > Cheers, > Alka > > http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2002/07/25/ubug.xml & sShee > t=/portal/2002/07/25/ixport.html > > Fat Americans sue fast-food giants > (Filed: 25/07/2002) > A group of overweight Americans is suing four fast-food giants accusing them > of knowingly serving meals that cause obesity and disease. > McDonald's, Burger King, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Wendy's misled consumers > by enticing them with greasy, salty and sugary meals, the lawsuit filed in > Bronx Supreme Court claims. > One of seven plaintiffs, Caesar Barbar said: " The fast-food industry has > wrecked my life. Guest guest
Well Responsibility is an interesting subject: Why does Dr Kovorkian end up in jail? And we have " Healthy Choice " TM by Con Agra Why would a MD be at fault if you follow his advise? You " should " have got a second opinion (by an associate of who would rubber stamp it) or have validated it with competent individual before following it. (don't get me started on where the MD got " good " info.) Creating a harmful product that knowingly or not harms the consumer when used as intended.. makes you libel. When you are in the military and you get a sunburn you can be brought up on charges to damaging government properly.. Seems to me charges could be brought up for stepping in for a Big Mac, fries or lighting up a cig. We have labels on alcoholic bevs (to protect the mftrs ) ( it was supposed to say causes cancer but was watered down by lobbies for the same mftrs. ) In this country people have fought and died for the right to be stupid.. It is the governments responsibility to protect us from harms way. Therefore: seatbelt & helmet laws & no smoking in public places in California. So until the government steps in to limit the use of junk food.. the manufacturers are responsible! Esp. when they use our airwaves with no rebutal to promote its use. And in my opinion any untainted study (fat chance) (nice pun) would show what should happen to junk food is what happened to smoking in California. Guest guest
When you are in the military and you get a sunburn you can be brought up on charges of damaging government property.. Seems to me charges could be brought up for stepping in for a Big Mac, fries or lighting up a cig. We label alcoholic bevs (to protect the mftrs from suits) ( like that spelling) It was supposed to say " promotes cancer " Which is what the fact is but was watered down by lobbies for the same mftrs to a warning about pregnancy and operating machinery. Thus keeping most of the market esp. Males (Guys don't get pregnant so macho appeal and mention machinery.. whoo give me a big one..) So take a lemon (heath warning) and turn it into lemonaid (marketing) And gals are not big on getting pregnant & love to play with machinery.. ie SUV sales.. In this country people have fought and died for the right to be stupid.. Governments responsibility to keep us from harms way. Therefore: seatbelt & helmet laws & no smoking in public places in California. (to improve profits for insurance companies) So until the government steps in to limit the use of junk food.. the manufacturers are responsible! Esp. when they use our airwaves with no rebutal to promote its use. And in my opinion any untainted study (fat chance) (nice pun) would show what should happen to junk food is what happened to smoking in California. BBQs are a large source of air pollution in cities. When are they going to be treated like the smog mobiles they are.. I am dosed almost every day in summer.. Toxic smoke and the smell of burning flesh blows in my bedroom window (second story). They have the right poison me.. I have no right to stop them.
