Guest guest
FYI: Bereket is already doing a ginger cake, which I've purchsed in SF. It's not very gingery OR spicy, but a good stand-by. It's only their first attempt, though. They tell me they are planning on doing beverages of some kind soon, too. The desserts mentioend from Sparks of Guerneville, like the banana bread, zucchini/flax bread, chocolate macadamia cookies, scones, etc. are very tasty but, unfortunately, not packaged properly, so they spoil quickly. (I noticed the plastic wrap open on several items, because he isn't using industry-standard wrap that sticks well and doesn't vacuum pack them.) I had the banana bread last week and though it has great flavor, it was constantly crumbling apart. These breads are normally moist and slice well. This is not like the usual quality of his catered desserts (his chocolate cheesecake is heaven, so I hope he'll distribute it, too), but I will mention it to him. At least he's trying to get it out there - we can always use more vegan desserts! Speaking of vegan food....word is that Caffe Proust is going ALL VEGAN some time in August. I'll probably be planning a dinner there that month, so look for a posting! Sue ----Original Message Follows---- sunny outdoors <sunny_outdoors [sFBAVeg] new vegan desserts at Rainbow Grocery-SF + Sat, 27 Jul 2002 18:56:54 -0700 (PDT) Sparks and Bereket are now offering vegan desserts. They both offer banana cakes. Sparks charge $6+ (larger size), Bereket charges $5. I had a Bereket banana chcolate cake made with: all organic ingrediants, wheat flour, water, rapadura, bananas, expeller pressed canola oil, vinegar, vanilla,FAIR TRADE COCOA powder, baking soda-non aluminum baking powder, sea salt. I weighted the 14 oz cake,,, it was really 1.14 LB WOW. It was fresh, moist and not too sweet. Hurry and buy some before they really make it 14oz. I highly recommend this cake. I heard one of the owners want to do a spicy ginger cake. Anyone out there crazy about it? I thought folks are usually crazy about chocolate. Well, now VIVA staff and others can buy this FAIR TRADE Chocolate product. Bereket also sells 4 kinds of organic sandwiches. Another important news, Organic Cafe NO LONGER sells their pastries products at Rainbow. -- Reminder, at Rainbow, if you bring your own shopping bags, you get 10 cents credit per bag, 5 cents for produce/bulk bags. If you forget, (which most of us usually forget), just grab a bag from the recycling bin. --- WORLD VEG DAY We are getting a of vendors for World Veg Day.
