For the two folks that asked about it and the others

who may have been curious -- it's at " Twin Castle " on

San Pablo. I don't know the exact address but it's

somewhere around 65th (?) Street, give or take five

blcoks, by the East Bay Depot for Creative Re-use

(which is another great!!! stop for those of you who

prefer to buy your art supplies/cloth/etc.

secondhand.)

The ice-cream is listed on the menu as " non-dairy " --

my friend Ben said that Frostline, a company that

provides soft-serve ice-cream, has two varieties: a

lactose-free one that still contains casein and is

thus not suitable for vegans, and a totally vegan one.

My girlfriend asked them about it and they maintained

that this variety was indeed the vegan one. I hope

they're good for their word; otherwise I'm

heartbroken.

They only have vanilla. A cone is $1 including tax,

and somewhat small if you're an ice cream fiend like

myself. I got two -- hell, the price is right. If

plain vanilla is not your style, you can mix things up

by getting it sundae or float style...mmm! To quote

Ben, " The root beer float changed my life...and then,

the chocolate malt changed it again. " Here's to

change.

ps -- I do realize that cooking is the easiest way to

stay within one's budget, but right now our kitchen is

taken over by ants so I prefer to avoid it as much as

possible. Tammy, did you ever find a humane method of

getting them to go away? Peppermint Oil proved to be

effective for us for awhile, but then my pregnant

housemate read somewhere that it's contraindicated for

pregnant women, and indeed it made her nauseous. We've

also tried diatomaceous earth (sp?), but no luck. At

first, I was extremely cautious not to step on ants,

brush them off of me, drown them, etc. -- but they've

taken over our entire house, and honestly, if I took

the time to " rescue " every ant that crossed my path, I

would never be able to leave the house. I still try to

inadvertently kill as few as possible, but when I went

to the laundromat the other day and there were dozens

of them crawling out of the washer (you spill anything

sweet on your shirt and you're done for around these

parts), my mercy was running low, and I was mortified.
