Guest guest
Dear Bridge Biker & other friends ~ I've been overwhelmed with a million tasks and a mountain of emails to which I must attend, but this note from Bridge Biker caught my eye, and I knew it deserved top priority. * Vik's Indian food in West Berkeley on Allston between 5th and 6th. cheap, authentic and nearly all vegetarian indian food at great prices (from $3.50-$4.95). I really love #9, the Batura Cholle. not sure if its truly vegan-- because they probably use ghee, but what's the matter with a little ghee anyway? pick 3 dishes to share between 2 people and us will be stuffed. The bhatura cholle at Vik's (curried chickpeas with big puffy deep-fried all-purpose flour bread) is absolutely fabulous and 100% vegan. They use vegetable oil (by no means top quality, certainly not organic, probably used over and over and over and over, heated to a temperature that induces the production of free radicals - but certainly vegan!) and not ghee (bovine mammary secretions churned into bovine butter and clarified). I dream about Vik's, but only allow myself to go there once every two or three months (I do pretend to care about my health - well my weight anyway!). :-), Alka
