I occasionally bought chocolate milk with my lunch to satisfy both my desire for a beverage with my meal (hmmm, I got over that idea, too!), and my desire to have dessert, thinking this kind of dessert was more healthy for me. (chuckle) This co-worker (who wasn't vegetarian) good-naturedly sneered at my chocolate milk, saying she didn't touch it because she visited the plant where her husband worked and she saw how chocolate milk was created. I don't remember precisely what she said, but it was something like...they used the bottom-of-the-barrel, older milk and made it into chocolate milk as the chocolate flavor helped disguise the cruddies in the milk. Needless to say, that was the last time I ever drank chocolate milk. It wasn't until 2000 that I dropped dairy altogether. For me, giving up dairy (including cheese, as much as I liked it) once I learned that " organic " milk wasn't " better " than regular milk for many reasons, was pretty easy. Learning of all the nasty ways the dairy industry operates (ala John Robbins), the animal cruelty part, and the plain junk like hormones and concentrated pesticides that are included in dairy, was why it was easy to give it up! (During this transition, seeing cold, hardened cheese on cold pizza or quesadillas became a big turn-off, wondering what on earth it must be doing to my insides!) I especially like the t-shirt that, to me, says it all: " VEGetariAN... (with a scissors cutting out the 'etari' out of the word) ....Cut out the crap. " and on the back is especially true: " Live Vegan....because the animals don't need our excuses. " So right on, don't cha know. Guest guest
When will they have toffuti Œmilk¹ chocolate? When that day happens, then maybe I can be vegan. tony Wildwood Makes an excellent organic chocolate soymilk (far better than Silk) It uses organic fair trade chocolate... A third of the worlds cocoa comes from the Ivory Coast where it is created with slave labor.. The slave conditions there are even worse than the bad old days.. slaves are used but not owned.. so no one is responsible for caring for the young, the old, or disabled.. No organic & (certainly so far) no free trade cocoa comes from the Ivory Coast. (warning some shade grown coffee does) Again I am impressed with John Robbins for being one of the few AR/Veg people to speak out about this and care about human animals. How about some talk about buying: Fair Trade And how we can help human animals? or is that too off topic.. When as some have.. people start trashing John Robbins.. I move them down a few notches on my Rosetta stone. Jay (I listening to his talks and esp. in personal meetings am not always enamored by him but what he writes I always find pertinent, caring and truthful.)
