Guest guest
Mickey I would not believe much of what the site you mentioned says.. It is by Robert Cohen who has pretty much proved to be an unreliability source of any true scientific information.. and has been an instigator of much bad will in the veg/ar community. http://www.vegsource.com/articles/cohen/ http://www.vegsource.com/articles/kaufman_cohen1.htm It appears Robert Cohen had an ax to grind with White Wave the makers of Silk. (Unrelated: White Wave was bought by a large food Company but is supposed to remain ~independent) I love Silks SoyNog at holiday time. I consumed 6 qts on that week in WI a couple of years back. When you get here you will be able to get Wild Wood.. which I like much better than Silk & Wild Wood is a sponsor of Go Vegan Radio. Wild Wood is a very cool I think vegan owned company that... like I said uses Fair Trade cocoa etc. I asked to owner of Wild Wood why he does not make a Soy Nog & he said it would cost too much to setup and produce as seasonal product in the small market he has. lipsmackinvegan [mickeydwalker] Sunday, August 04, 2002 12:00 PM [sFBAVeg] (unknown) Hi all! Ok, so little did I know that in posting about a yummy chocolate almond milk, that it would snowball into a scientific investigation involving animal experimentation! Yikes. Although, I must say, I did not know of any harmful effects of carageenan. It's an extract of seaweed, personally I'd think if anything, You can check out this site if you're curious about it. This is one viewpoint of it, I wonder if there is any other studies done on it. http://www.notmilk.com/deadlysilk.html I'm disturbed, as my sister and I go through about 3 cartons of silk every week! Between the two of us, we use it for coffee, lattes, granola, smoothies, pancakes, it's indespensible around here!! So to find out it has this deadly cancer causing additive, how gross! Guest guest
Regardless of your personal opinions of the source, the information that he cited is quite valid. I will refer you to the following links which corroborate his claims. The danger of carageenan is quite real. Remember, just because the people are nice, their intentions may not be the best. I know plenty of wonderfully nice ranchers. Love, Ryan Can Carrageenan in Some Soy Milk Cause Cancer? http://www.drweil.com/drw/app/cda/drw_cda.php?command=TodayQA & pt=Question & questionId=44833 Review of Harmful Gastrointestinal Effects of Carrageenan in Animal Experiments http://ehpnet1.niehs.nih.gov/docs/2001/109p983-994tobacman/abstract.html Carageenan - First, a quote: > Do you consume foods that contain carrageenan? The take home message here is to do your own research. If you don't believe what you hear from one source, check their sources! -R On Sunday, August 4, 2002, at 07:45 PM, Jay Gleason wrote: > Mickey > > I would not believe much of what the site you mentioned says.. > > It is by Robert Cohen who has pretty much proved to be an unreliability > source of any true scientific information.. and has been an instigator > of > much bad will in the veg/ar community. > > http://www.vegsource.com/articles/cohen/ > > http://www.vegsource.com/articles/kaufman_cohen1.htm > > It appears Robert Cohen had an ax to grind with White Wave the makers of > Silk.
