Patrick (Unitarian Universalists for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and Alka Chandna (Food and Social Justice Project). 1. City Tea for Country Critters: A Fancy Fundraiser for Farm Sanctuary. Join us for an afternoon of tea & crumpets! Dr. Michael Greger will speak on mad cow disease and other threats to our food supply at a fundraising tea party for Farm Sanctuary, a shelter for abused and neglected farmed animals. Sunday, August 18th, 4 pm - 7:30 pm. First Unitarian Church of Oakland, 685 14th Street in Oakland. Sliding Scale: $5 - $25. For more information, please call 510-914-7131 or 415-337-0663. 2. Monthly Vegetarian Cooking Class! Our next class is on Saturday August 17th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church of Oakland (685 14th at Castro). $20. The topic is Beautiful Beginnings: Breakfast and Brunch, and on the menu is *Breakfast Tofu Scramble *Polenta, Tofu, and Vegetable Quiche *Baked Potato Pie *No-Fuss Pancakes with Blueberry-Orange Sauce *The " No Eggs " Benedict *Veggie Sausage Contact colleen or 510-914-7131 to sign up. 3. Walk for Farm Animals -- in Oakland! JOIN US AT FRANK OGAWA PLAZA IN FRONT OF OAKLAND CITY HALL (AT 14TH STREET) ON SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 7 AT 10 A.M. TO WALK ON BEHALF OF FARM ANIMALS AND TO RAISE MONEY FOR FARM SANCTUARY (www.farmsanctuary.org). After our 2.5-mile walk, we will have speakers and refreshments.
