Vegan messages to Basin Robbins/Ben & Jerry's

So, I took Tammy's suggestion and called both Baskin Robbins

(800-859-5339) and Ben & Jerry's (consumer affairs # is actually

802-846-1500, but if you call the retail operation # at 800-859-5339,

they can connect you to Norma, who works with consumer affairs). The guy

at Baskin Robbins was very receptive, and mentioned that they had been

receiving a good number of calls asking for vegan ice cream lately, and

that they were very interested to hear from us. Norma at Ben & Jerry's

explained to me that she'd been getting a number of calls lately from CA

(she believed there must have been an email that got passed out

somewhere ;-) ), and that Ben & Jerry's policy was that they were going

to continue using dairy, because they strongly believe in supporting the

local Vermont small dairy farmers. I told her that I wasn't suggesting

they entirely replace dairy with vegan ice cream, but that many of us,

including those who are lactose intolerant, would be thrilled if there

were even a couple of vegan options offered in addition to their dairy

flavors. Guess we'll see how it all evolves...
