Guest guest
Hi Rob and All, Ananda's is closed for a couple weeks--I don't think they open back up until the second week of Sept. (their msg should tell you--# is 621-1994). I also have two restaurant updates. I work in the Civic Center area and cheap vegan lunches are woefully rare. I did find one more option though. The Terrace Cafe on Market (and 8th, I think) has a decent salad bar that has tofu, beans, soy bakon bits, several vinegars and oils and some good fresh veggies. They also have fresh fruit, vegan rolls and juice. All their entrees though seem to have meat in them, but the dishes are made on the spot, so it looked like you could get some stir fried veggies and rice. I don't like paying $5 for a salad, but you get as much as you can fit on a dinner plate and I need alternatives to Ananda's! I'm happy to hear of any other Civic Center-area suggestions (I'm at Market and Van Ness). I haven't confirmed it myself yet, but a vegan friend had a good lunch at Barney's. They are a burger place, but my friend says they have a whole list of tofu burgers with toppings like grilled veggies, teriyaki, guacamole, etc. I know there is one on College Ave. in Oakland. Just FYI! Nicole , " borcic " <borcic> wrote: > I often go to Ananda Fuara (all-veg, some vegan options) since it's > right next to my BART station, but I'm open to suggestions. Guest guest
Note about Barney's Hamburgers, if you haven't been there yet. They have both a " veggie " and a " tofu " burger. I've had only the latter, which I know is vegan and VERY good. The other I'm not sure about. But the highlight for me is their PORTOBELLO " burger " - just a huge portobello mushroom with toppings. You can pretty much create whatever kind you want and they are fantastic! Mouthwatering! Warning, one time I ordered it with BBQ sauce and there was more sauce on it than I've ever had on anything in my life. What a joyful, yummy mess it was. But because it's all so slippery, I'd recommend omitting the roasted red peppers, as they significantly enhance the slippery effect. yum, want one right now..... grrlburn wrote:Hi Rob and All, Ananda's is closed for a couple weeks--I don't think they open back up until the second week of Sept.
