Guest guest
I just listened to an interview on a radio food show with a man who is the CFO with Gourmet Mushrooms, Inc in Sepastopol. Here is a bit about them: Gourmet Mushrooms, Inc. is the largest exotic mushroom grower in Northern California. The 24-year-old business, where 36 kinds of exotic mushrooms are raised, is in the middle of building a $3 million facility north of Sebastopol, California that will triple the current production. Besides growing these forest mushrooms varieties for culinary and medicinal purposes, the new facility will enable the company to host scientific seminars for members of the industry. The plan is to then build a house for hosting visiting chefs to come and learn about the benefits of using exotic mushrooms He said that there are more varieties of mushrooms than other biotanical life. I love mushrooms but have not figured out how to make much more than a saute or rissoto or Mushroom Barley Soup from Dr. Michael Klaper's cookbook " Vegan Nuitrition: Pure and Simple " . I went to Millennium's mushroom dinner a few years ago and it was fantastic. Reservations were almost impossible to get. I don't know if they still have the these dinners. There was a display of mushrooms and info put together by the SF Mycological Society. It was in late January. At the present time GMI sells only to chefs because of the demand for the mushrooms and not enough supply. But after their expansion is completed their mushrooms will be available at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's!!! (according to the interview) Their web site is www.gourmetmushroomsinc.com. At this time there are only 6 recipes, several of which can be made vegan. Their proposed seminars for chefs look very interesting. Bon appetit!
