Guest guest Posted September 4, 2002 Report Share Posted September 4, 2002 Puzzle: A group of people live on 10 acres of land surrounded by a fence. they grow their own food, and save seeds of heirloom, rare and endangered plants. The only entrance to the property is covered by a 'cattle grate " - a big hole covered in thin bars 3 inches apart. cars and humans can come in -deer and large critters cannot. Two of the deer work out that they can enter the property by carefully treading along the thin support bars that hold up the grate (clever deers). The bars are greased and a triangle shaped ridge is put over the bars. The two deer still come in. Tests prove that the deer are definately coming in over the grate (tracks in cornflour). The deer may eat the seed stocks and the food, the seed is extremely valuable (for the planet). An electric fence is too expensive. Some residents propose shooting and eating the deer. Problem solved? The is a real life puzzle - the deer are running out of time - we need a solution. The residents may not be convinced that the deer's lives are more precious than saving the plants for future generations Any solutions anyone?
