Hi there,

Can you all please recommend your favorite filling vegan foods? I

decided that my month of veganism would begin on Sept 1st. So far, so

good! But I find I'm really hungry a lot of the time, and was wondering

about what I could eat to feel full. ( I also need to eat more

regularly! My body is confused.)

Also, any help with vitamin suggestions would be most welcome. I'm

currently taking none, and I know I should be. So if you could suggest

brands or which vitamins I need to take, etc, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks, everyone!

Hi everyone,

Meghan, I think if you eat anything in enough quantities, it will be quite

filling. I tend to eat throughout the day, usually lunch and dinner are my

big meals, and smaller quantity for breakfast, morning snack, afternoon

snack, evening snack....... :-) I always try to have a stash at work,

too -- usually some type of instant soup cups or Clif Bars are my

" emergency " rations.

My quick favorite vegan foods are:

1) toasted sesame bagels with peanut butter and jelly

2) baked potato (or microwave) with various toppings (like salsa, baked

beans, or sometimes just some salt if its a creamy potato like Yukon Gold)

3) westbrae ramen noodles (curry flavor) and I add mushrooms and whatever

veggies that I have

Here are some of my favorite cookbooks, perhaps you can look for them at

your library or bookstore to get some recipe ideas:

1) Peaceful Palate by Jennifer Raymond (many good recipes! I recently

attended a get-together where all the food was from Jennifer's cookbooks)

2) Tofu Cookery by Louise Hagler (Korean BBQ Tofu is my favorite, see link

below for recipe)

I confess to having so many cookbooks, that I've never used them all, so I

rarely look online for recipes. But a good resource is the ivu.org site.

They have an online database that you can search.

For all the people that ask me " What do vegans eat? " , I wish I could bring

them to one of our SFBAVeg Food Parties... People bring such awesome &

yummy dishes to share. I think we'll have a few more during the

fall/winter, we'll announce it here when the details are finalized.

Oh, and for vitamins! After hearing Jack speak twice, it has finally sunk

in that I need to take a B-12 supplement. He's posted more info on this on

the list before, so if you search the archives, you can find them. (To

search the archives, go to the SFBAVeg page and there's a

search box)

A few of my favorite recipes are online in the SFBAVeg groups page too -
