Guest guest
The subsequent reactions to this topic don't make sense to me. The article specifically said being *vegan* is not a religion. Yet the responses mischaracterized the court opinion as referring to being *vegetarian* as not a religion which was not stated in the article. In fact, the article doesn't even mention vegetarianism. Here's the title - " Vegans don't eat, wear or use animal products, but that's a moral ^^^^^^^ philosophical practice, not a religion, a state appellate court ruled Friday. " I guess one can make a religion out of anything including worshipping the bathroom sink or your pet cat, but for purposes of jurisprudence, what constitutes a religion has a lot of common and case law history, I would think. While the vegetarian lifestyle has been a practice of many world religions, are there any traditional religions out there that specifically practice veganism ? My question is more of curiosity than anything else because I'm not aware of any large religions specifically prescribing veganism (as in no animal products). I'm not of course talking of some cults here and there started by some wacko but large organized religions of the scale of Buddhism or Christianity. Of course I could be completely wrong and way off base. I have no problems at all with anybody wishing to create some new religion or seek to obtain religious status for their pet cat or bathroom sink, that's their business. But seriously folks, do we need any more religions than we have now ? Think about it. Cheers, Krsna and Shaelaja
