Guest guest
Hi all, I just loved the advantages Karen put forward to be vegan (/message/2515)! I was raised on SAD food (Standard American Diet). It wasn't until I went vegan that I had the opportunity to try so many different types of foods. Deciding to be vegan was one of the best decisions that I've ever made. Karen, belated thanks for sharing that... I also liked Colleen's message (/message/2362) that summarized her speech at the Oakland post-walkathon rally. I think it was after Colleen spoke that Bruce Friedrich of PETA took the podium, quoting Matt Ball of Vegan Outreach. The gist of it basically was that if there are 5,000 vegans now, and each vegan can convince one other person a year to go vegan, there will be 10,000 vegans in year 2. In year 3, there will be 20,000 vegans. This is the type of math that I always hated when talking about the overpopulation of cats and dogs, but I think it works great for increasing the number of folks eating a plant-based diet. And, I have to agree with Tony... I am thrilled that Alka will be able to put her excellent animal advocacy skills to work for PETA, but sad that she will no longer be in our midst. I was very happy to see mention of AR 101 though, and would love to see that program on tour again. That was one of the very first AR events that I attended, and I credit PETA and the seminar for introducing me to how yummy vegan food can be (good vegan intentions did not make up for my lack of good vegan cookbooks). These are probably my 2 favorite cookbooks: Tofu Cookery by Louise Hagler Peaceful Palate by Jennifer Raymond Cheers, Tammy Be a Veg with SFBAVeg! http://www.generationv.org/.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Perform a death-defying act....
