Guest guest
Dear Friends, I hope all of you are well. I just wanted to send out an alert/reminder of the Farm Sanctuary Walkathon happening *next* Sunday, October 27th in San Francisco. The walk is bound to be lots of fun, with colorful flags, costumes, speakers, music, and food! Here's the itinerary: 12 NOON: Meet at Justin Herman Plaza (Embarcadero at Market, 2 blocks from the Embarcadero BART station). 12:30 PM: Begin walking. There will be a shorter loop within a longer loop, for young kids and others who want a shorter walk. BETWEEN 1:30 PM and 2 PM: We will reconvene at Justin Herman Plaza. 2 PM - 3 PM: Post-walk rally at Justin Herman Plaza featuring speakers and musicians. After the rally, there will be an optional lunch at Golden Era (fresh Vietnamese vegetarian on O'Farrell at Leavenworth). Many of you are aware that I am leaving the Bay Area at the end of the month (Monday, October 28th!) to assume the position of Campaigns Manager at PeTA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). Because of the tight time schedule as my date of departure approaches, I decided to have my " farewell lunch " coincide with our post-walkathon lunch. Confirmed speakers for the post-walk rally include: * Joseph Connelly, Editor, Veg News (http://www.vegnews.com) * lauren Ornelas, Director, Viva! USA (http://www.vivausa.org) * Jack Norris, R.D., Director & Co-Founder, Vegan Outreach and Editor, " Making Sense of Vegetarian Nutrition Research " (http://www.veganoutreach.org, http://www.jacknorrisrd.com/newsletter) * Bruce Friedrich, Director of Vegan Outreach, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (http://www.goveg.com, http://www.peta.org) You are invited to come out to the walkathon, signing up at the walk itself (THERE IS NO NEED TO PRE-REGISTER). If you would like to collect pledges prior to the walk, please download the pledge form at: http://www.walkforfarmanimals.org/san_francisco.htm If you would like a special t-shirt commemorating the walk, you can get one at the walk for a $10 registration fee. Otherwise, we're accepting donations (all proceeds to go directly to Farm Sanctuary) on a sliding scale (donate what you can afford) of $5 - $250. Of course, no one will be turned away for lack of funds. As I've been cleaning out my basement in preparation for my upcoming move, we have LOTS of GREAT prizes for folks that were able to collect the most pledges, as well as lots of wonderful raffle prizes. Included in these prizes are: books, CDs, t-shirts, posters, a lovely gift basket of vegan delights, and a $50 gift certificate for yummy treats at www.sunorganic.com. Bring your friends, family, co-workers, and people that you happen to meet on the street over the walkathon next Sunday. It's sure to be a fun, positive, upbeat way to turn people onto the vibrant vivacious vegan vay! (runnin' out of v-words; gotta run to my Vanpool ...).
