Guest guest
I was there for lunch yesterday, and was kind of disappointed at how non-vegan friendly it was. Seems like there was ghee in everything. I ended up getting the okra and potato curry over rice - it wasn't like the more liquid curries I usually think of. It was more like hash browns, very greasy. It was tasty, and the rice was good, but probably wasn't the healthiest dish (or vegan, but I didn't have time to go anywhere else). For $4, it was a good value (it came with a papdam, which was also extremely greasy but tasty). I won't be going back, but wouldn't dissuade non-vegans from checking it out. There were quite a few people there, so I'm glad that they're getting some business as they seem like nice people and that area could use more non-sketchy businesses. -Kim On Thu, 24 Oct 2002, raosam2001 wrote: > FYI- I am of Indian origin- the is cooking is def authentic and > homestyle Indian -not Americanized. > SR > ------------------------ > Review for HAVELI HINDU VEGETARIAN RESTAURANT by Sam Rao > 35 Sixth Street > (ON 6TH between Mission & Market) > 415-348-1381 > Mukesh-bhai- owner( Mr. Dattani)/Server Manager Morari-bhai > > Motel Uptairs. > > Recommended for a simple delicious AUTHENTIC HOME MADE Indian > Vegetarian food(not vegan) > Food faire is humble-delcious and hails from Western India- Gujarat. > (state of origin of Mahatma Gandhi) > > NOTE: The food from this region is traditionally mild- NOT spicy hot. > > The $8.00- All u can Eat lunch- comprises of a metal plate with good > scoop of rice and 2 chappati/Roti and 2 Vegtables and a Sweet dish w/ > Dal (Lentil Soup on side)- Of course unlimited helpings offered. > > Other variations for lunch also offered ranging form $4 to $8 plus ala > carte snacks and dishes etc. > > FOOD: Home Made style Good-Delicous-Authentic-Light oil (good) > -Chappati/Roti- Traditional- thin and FRESH- (NOT LIKE the Thick Nans > w/ baking soda available in most Indian restaurants) > -Curry/Vegetables- a) potatoe and Okra- OK-soggy b) > -Blackbean/onions-V.Good > SERVICE: Fast-Humble.
